Charging the capacitor. When the capacitor is full, the red probe voltage (+ve side of capacitor) will be approximately same as the battery +ve voltage which is around 8.5 volts. No voltage drop means no current, hence capacitor acts like open circuit. Discharging the capacitor by using its electric charge to light up LED.Capacitor no more juice.
